The Institute of Olive Tree, Subtropical Crops and Viticulture based in Chania is under the General Directorate of Agricultural Research of ELGO-DIMITRA. Its mission is to design and implement research, demonstration and pilot projects to solve problems and modernize the cultivation of olives, citrus, subtropical crops, vines and vegetables. At the same time, it develops research and actions related to the quality of olive oil, the integrated management of animal pests and diseases of cultivated plants, the management of soil resources, and aromatic plants.
IOSV also provides technical support and services to address specific problems in the primary sector.
Manages a large number of experimental fields and collection fields where it maintains the varieties of the National catalog of olives, citrus fruits, figs and many subtropical species and vines.
