The Laboratory of Plant Mineral Nutrition and Physiology at Chania is carrying out soil analyses either for the optimum selection of a crop or rootstock in new plantations, or for determining nutrient availability and adjusting the fertilizing schedule of a crop. Under this scope, basic soil properties are determined (pH, electrical conductivity, soil texture, total and active CaCO3, organic matter percentage), along with the availability of different nutrients (Nitrate Nitrogen, Olsen Phosphorus and exchangeable forms of Potassium, Calcium, Magnesium, Iron, Zinc, Manganese and Copper. In all cases, the relevant guidelines are given for crop selection or crop fertilizing.
