The laboratory of Mycology provides disease diagnosis services for fungi affecting plant and trees, along with instructions for successful disease management. Diseased samples are examined by employing classical and molecular diagnostic methods. In particular, symptomatic samples are examined macroscopically, stereoscopically and microscopically to identify the potential causal agents. If needed, fungal isolations onto culture media are also performed. Then, microscopical identification of isolated fungi is carried out or further molecular analyses are conducted to identify lesser-known fungi affecting plants. Besides accurate disease diagnosis, the laboratory of Mycology provides instructions to stakeholders for effective disease management.
