The Laboratory of Virology of Vegetable crops and Grapevine focus on viruses infecting grapevine andvegetables. The main research interest focuses on the identification and molecular characterization of viral diseases infectingcultivated, ornamental plants, and grapevines, with a special emphasis on new emerging viruses. In addition, Laboratory of Plant Virologyis interested in developing and improving molecular assays for diagnosis and characterization of plant viruses, phytoplasmas and viroids, and in development of novel detection methods that could be reliably applied in routine testing of plant material and on certification schemes of grapevines. Further research interests include studying of plant viruses’ epidemiology in Greece, especially in the island of Crete, plant viruses’ genetic variability and evolution, and plant host-virus-vector interactions, in order to understand virus biology and develop more efficient disease management strategies.
