The activities of the Nematology Lab are focused on the study of biology and integrated control of plant parasitic nematodes in major crops of Crete like vegetables, potato, grapevine, banana etc. Furthermore, detection of plant parasitic nematode problems is conducted in several other crops either annual or perennial. When identification of the nematode species is necessary through application of molecular/biochemical methods, this is carried out in cooperating institutes abroad. Furthermore, the effect on nematode attack on plant physiology and the interaction of nematodes with fungal plant pathogens is investigated in collaboration with respective laboratories of the Institute.
