Research activities of the Department of Olive and Horticultural Crops are focused on tree crops, particularly olive and fig. Also, the Department has the role of curator for the National Collection of fig cultivars.

Scientific research areas:

  • Collection and preservation of fig genetic material and evaluation of fruit quality traits.
  • Production and conservation of healthy propagation material of figcultivars, in association with Plant Phytopathology Laboratory of IOSV.
  • Field experiments with innovative compounds on olive culture and their effects on yield, quality and nutritional value of olive products, mainly olive oil.
  • Sustainable agriculture practices and their effect on quality and nutritional value characteristics of olive products.
