The Mytilene Olive Oil Laboratory, of having as its primary concern to cover the needs of the Agricultural sector and the Olive Oil Production and Standardization Industry, has set as a goal the provision of quality and reliable services with the ultimate goal of production, bottling, distribution and consumption of Greek quality certified olive oil through analyzes based on national and international standards.
For this purpose, the Laboratory performs a large number of accredited tests (chemical and organoleptic) on olive oil samples in accordance with European Community Regulation (EEC) NO. 2568/91 with its amendments, as well as ISO methods and methods of the International Olive Council (IOC).
The Mytilene Olive Oil Laboratory is also an officially collaborating Laboratory with the Hellenic Food Authority (EFET) for the organoleptic assessment of extra virgin and virgin olive oil samples in the framework of the official conformity controls for standard olive oils in application of the European Regulation (EEC) No 2568/91.
Finally, the Laboratory has developed a close collaboration with the Department of Analytical Chemistry of the Kapodistrian University of Athens (EKPA) in order to support research programs aimed at developing innovative olive and vine products in the North Aegean Region through the genetic identification of olive and grape varieties as well as chemical characterization of their products.
