Vine Breeding includes

(i) the traditional methodology (artificial pollination) in which new varieties are created after targeted crossbreeding between parental varieties selected on the basis of specific desirable characteristics, and

(ii) applications of modern DNA approaches which allow the monitoring (presence / absence) of desirable characteristics. In addition, part of the Breeding is the exploration of the genetic variability by using molecular markers in order to define and record this variability.
