Research activities in the field are focused on studying the effects of abiotic factors on mineral nutrition and physiology of olive, citrus, subtropical crops, grapevine and vegetable crops. Sustainable management of water and nutrients and effects on photosynthesis and nutritional status of the plants are studied, focusing in optimizing the soil environment for plant development. Moreover, similar effects of other environmental factors are investigated, for recording plant response under adverse environments (water stress, salinity stress, UV-stress, etc) within the framework of expected negative impacts of climate change. Finally, significant activity is recorded in evaluation of innovative fertilizing products, in close cooperation with the private sector.

The Working Group on plant physiology and mineral nutrition includes the following researchers: G. Psarras, K. Tzerakis, G. Koubouris, V. Ziogas, T.T. Τzatzani, D. Taskos, G. Doupis, G. Tsaniklidis, N. Kourgialas.
