Department of Olive and Horticultural Crops
The Department of Olive and Horticultural Crops of the Institute of Olive Tree, Subtropical Crops and Viticulture is located at Kalamata. Research activities are focused on tree crops, particularly olive and fig. Also, the Department has the role of curator for the National Collection of fig cultivars. In addition, its unit focuses on the development of sustainable production systems based on agroecological principles, with regards to important tree crops for Greece and the Mediterranean. Finally, one of the three olive oil laboratories of the Institute is located at Kalamata, that provide analyses of high quality and reliability, concerning quality, authenticity and safety parameters of olive oil.
